Facebook is addressing a new frontier: love. Facebook Dating, a partner search service that the company already offers in Brazil, Canada, and 17 other countries, arrives in the United States on Thursday. But after years of privacy errors on the part of the social network, will people trust you with your love life?
The mobile-only function is part of Facebook’s continued attempt to reach all aspects of human existence. Tinder and other applications already use Facebook data to suggest matches and allow people to log in with their Facebook accounts.

How does it work?
According to a Facebook statement, the partner search tool makes use of the Stories to build a profile to show your potential love candidates. “This format allows you to be authentic in a way that a typical dating profile cannot, and it helps you meet someone before and after there is an interest,” says the company. You also have to be over 18 years to create your dating profile.

Facebook clarifies that this function to search for romantic relationships is not about sliding between candidate profiles or having to wait for someone to like you to have a first chance to communicate. If you are interested in someone, you can comment directly on their profile or touch the “Like” button to let them know.
Highlight that there is a function called “Secret Crush” that allows you to be interested in people you already know on Facebook and / or Instagram. Facebook explains it like this: “By default, Facebook Dating will not match you with your Facebook friends, but people told us they were interested in exploring possible romantic relationships within their social circles, such as their Facebook friends list and your Instagram followers. “
If you choose to use Secret Crush, you can select up to nine of your Facebook friends or Instagram followers that interest you. To add Instagram followers, you must connect your Instagram account to Facebook Dating. If your “crush” is using Facebook Dating, he will receive a notification saying someone is “in love” with him.
In other words, if that person you are interested in is not on Facebook Dating, does not create a secret crush list or does not put you on their list, then nobody will know that you have entered their name.
